Bone Broth: Delicious and Full of Nutrients

 
I eat around three meals per day. Some days I’ll eat one more and some days I’ll eat none. However, one thing is consistent: I cook all my meals. Along these lines, my goal is always to cook the easiest and most nutritious meals that take the least amount of preparation and time out of my busy schedule.
 
Because of this, I have very little use for recipe books, as my meals usually include a plateful (or two) of leafy green vegetables and an animal source cooked in a fat with salt and pepper. Recipes that need ten ingredients and twenty-step meals have no place in my kitchen.
 
However, one recipe is too great to leave bottled up and not share. When I started making this for breakfast, it was one of those foods that changed my life in many ways. A food that keeps me satiated all morning and provides me with the largest amount of nutrients possible in a sitting while remaining easy to prepare each morning is more than just a meal. When I channeled my Southern Italian heritage and began making bone broth several years ago, I finally found this food.

Follow these six steps to a healthy and delicious pot of bone broth, and you too can feel this satisfaction…
 

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

 
There are three main elements to a pot of delicious bone broth: the meat, the vegetables, and the spices. For meat, I generally choose one of the following:

  • Ox tail
  • Marrow bones
  • Beef shank with marrow bone

    This ” have very little use for recipe books” malarky is all very well, but recipe books have their uses. You appear to have done well with the method, but there is a total lack of info regarding what weight of bones to how much water (enough to cover the bones or more?) that will require that 1/2 cup of cider vinegar. I’d also like to know how long the broth will keep in the fridge and whether I can freeze it. If the latter, do I do I just freeze the broth itself before I add the veg and eggs.
    And by the by, we have been very grateful for the info to date on the likely wisdom of pursuing a ketogenic diet as an adjunct to cancer treatment.

      They certainly do – this goes out to people who say they don’t have enough time to cook. Recipe books (or note cards, which are what my Italian grandmother passed down) are certainly good for some people!
